  • Aug 05 - Maxbox The Answer To Ute Storage
The handy, carry-all ‘ute’ has to be one of the most practical vehicles ever designed. But a ute has its limitations when it comes to secure storage for tools, sports gear and other valuable equipment. That’s because the standard cab is designed for two people, the odd can of drink, CDs and not much else. Double cabs lack similar storage when four occupants are being carried.

So Best Bars has come up with a solution that delivers plenty of lockable hide-away storage, regardless of the cab size. It’s called Maxbox. There’s a range of these handy utility boxes, designed to suit most utes sold in New Zealand and they also come in different styles.

Two of the models are designed to fit completely within the wellside tray to allow installation of a tonneau cover or canopy over the top. Model VAN0001, with a width of 1340mm, is made to fit a variety of Japanese one-tonne utes, whilst the 1400mm wide VAN0011 suits larger vehicles, such as the Commodore/Crewman ute range and the all new Toyota Hilux.

The third model, VAN0003, is designed to partly sit on top of the wellsides, and provides space under the box so that long objects can still be transported in the tray. Unlike the other two Maxboxes, which have mid-mounted locks, this one has its locks on both sides and is hinged in the centre for easy access from the sides of the vehicle. The locks are tough, tamper-proof designs to protect the contents.

The Maxbox is contructed from advanced plastic composites made to withstand the harsh UV sunlight in New Zealand and, just as importantly in our climate, it’s waterproof. Each Maxbox comes with an installation kit to enable it to be securely fixed to the vehicle.

The Maxbox joins a growing range of specialist automotive equipment now supplied by Best Bars, including towbars and accessories, bike racks, alloy decks for utes, canopies, bullbars, sport bars, nudge bars, running boards, ladder racks, ute deck liners and so on.

Feb 05 - Ezi Way to Avoid Number Plate Fine
Motorists who carry cycles on towbar-mounted racks on the back of their vehicle should fit a supplementary number plate that can be easily seen, or risk being slapped with a police fine.

That’s the advice from Best Bars Ltd, New Zealand’s leading manufacturer and supplier of vehicle-mounted bike rack systems, after motorists in the South Island were recently caught in a police crack-down on obscured number plates.

Towbar-mounted bike racks have become very popular among leisure cyclists, adventure cyclists and mountain-bike competitors, but a rack equipped with several bikes can hide the vehicle’s number plate, which is illegal.

Best Bars has designed a special fitement for its top-selling Ezi Grip bike rack system displaying a number plate – it is standard on all models. Stephen de Kriek, Managing Director of Best Bars advises owners of Ezi Grip racks to make use of this facility.

Mr de Kriek CEO of Best Bars says, “The number plate can be obscured if several bikes are carried on the rack and that is why we designed the arm of the Ezi Grip to hold a number plate. In the rush to mount the bikes it is easy to forget about the number plate, so I would advise motorists to purchase a supplementary plate that can be fixed to the rack at all times. That way they don’t run the risk of a fine/infringement notice.”

Mr de Kriek also advises motorists who are carrying cycles on bikes racks after dark to ensure that the supplementary number plate is lit. He says an auto electrician should be able to run a simple extension from the vehicle’s existing lighting system.

The New Zealand-designed Ezi Grip bike rack has been a major success story for Best Bars since its introduction in the 1980s. Unlike other, simple towbar-mounted racks, the Ezi Grip has a sophisticated design that securely clamps up to four cycles at a time.
